Jonathan Haidt on Dualism
Friday, January 2nd, 2009Psychologist Jonathan Haidt has given a TED talk where he discusses the difference in moral perception between liberals and conservatives, and ties political inclinations into religious symbols and psychology, concluding that both liberals and conservatives ultimately should work together (as in the Vishnu-conserver, Shiva-destroyer dichotomy), citing a quote from Buddhist monk Sent-t’san:
If you want the truth to stand clear before you, never be for or against.
The struggle between “for” and “against” is the mind’s worst disease.
